In December 2016, Burnkit collaborated with Inform Interiors to produce a holiday window display for their busy Gastown storefront.
Using wood as the central element, we designed an installation which celebrates the romance of wintertime: a cosy spot beside the fire while the snow falls outside. The dual functionality of wood as a material for both construction and combustion is presented through the construction of the woodstack, which appears as both the structure or shelter and the source of the fire’s fuel.
The selection of furniture and objects pays special attention to construction and craft, with Ole Wanscher’s classic Colonial chairs framing the hearth. A small run of posters were designed and printed on newsprint, intended as giftwrap or fuel for one’s own fire.
This exhibit was a finalist in the Communication Arts Awards’ Environmental Graphics category.
